Tell Me the Stories of Jesus: The Explosive Power of Jesus Parables by R. Albert Mohler Jr. is a book that delves into the world of Jesus' parables and the transformative power they hold.
Book Cover

In this book, I like that in one parable Mohler mentioned we focus on the sons in the Parable of the Prodigal Son but not the waiting father. Maybe we should call it the Parable of the Waiting Father.

Mohler, who is the president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, offers readers a comprehensive and insightful analysis of the parables of Jesus and their relevance in our modern world.

Mohler also focuses on the parables of Jesus having both grace and judgment in each and everyone of them, not just one or the other. Plus Mohler shares that each parable of Jesus has something about the Kingdom of Christ in them too.

The book is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the nature of parables and their significance in the ministry of Jesus. Mohler explores the various ways in which parables were used in the ancient world, and how Jesus used them to communicate deep spiritual truths to his followers. He also discusses the interpretive challenges posed by the parables and offers practical advice on how to read and understand them.

The second part of the book examines some of the most famous parables of Jesus, including the parables of the sower, the prodigal son, and the Good Samaritan. Mohler provides a detailed analysis of each parable, highlighting its main themes and drawing out its practical applications for modern readers.

One of the strengths of Tell Me the Stories of Jesus is Mohler’s ability to make complex theological concepts accessible to a general audience. He uses clear, straightforward language and provides plenty of examples to illustrate his points. His insights into the parables are grounded in solid biblical scholarship, but he never loses sight of the fact that these stories are meant to be understood and applied by ordinary people.

Another notable aspect of the book is Mohler’s emphasis on the transformative power of the parables. He argues that the parables are not simply moralistic tales or abstract theological concepts, but rather stories that have the power to change lives.

Mohler contends that the parables have the ability to challenge our assumptions, confront our sin, and inspire us to live out our faith in practical ways. He encourages readers to engage with the parables in a way that allows them to experience the explosive power of these stories in their own lives.

Throughout the book, Mohler emphasizes the importance of approaching the parables with humility and openness to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. He acknowledges that the parables can be difficult to understand and that there are multiple valid interpretations, but he encourages readers to continue seeking a deeper understanding of these stories and their significance.

Overall, Tell Me the Stories of Jesus is a thought-provoking and insightful exploration of the parables of Jesus. Whether you are a seasoned theologian or a casual reader of the Bible, this book offers valuable insights into the timeless wisdom of Jesus’ stories and their relevance for our lives today.

I do highly recommend everyone to read or listen to this book. If you don’t like to read, lIke me, then listen to the audiobook version like I just did with my wife.
